Difference between SSH & Telnet


  1. SSH stands for Secure Shell whereas telnet is the joint abbreviation of Telecommunications and Networks and both are protocols.
  2. Both protocols are used to access the servers remotely.
  3. SSH is very much secure while telnet is less secure.
  4. SSH uses the port 22 while telnet port is 23.
  5. SSH shares and sends the information in encrypted form while telnet sends data and requests in the plain text (that’s why SSH is more secure).
  6. SSH uses a public key for authentication whereas telnet does not use any authentication.
  7. SSH is mostly used in Linux servers whereas telnet is useful for the UNIX servers.
