Difference between SSH & Telnet

- SSH stands for Secure Shell whereas telnet is the joint abbreviation of Telecommunications and Networks and both are protocols.
- Both protocols are used to access the servers remotely.
- SSH is very much secure while telnet is less secure.
- SSH uses the port 22 while telnet port is 23.
- SSH shares and sends the information in encrypted form while telnet sends data and requests in the plain text (that’s why SSH is more secure).
- SSH uses a public key for authentication whereas telnet does not use any authentication.
- SSH is mostly used in Linux servers whereas telnet is useful for the UNIX servers.
